Just Visiting

Fri Jan 16, 2009, 4:24 PM
I visit DeviantArt, still, everyday but only to see what everyone else is doing with their creative minds. I forgot where I heard that every girl goes through a photography phase (some tv show or movie), but the things I uploaded onto this site were during my artsy phase. Was I any good at art? Heck no, but it was fun for me and it brought me into this interesting little [huge] community.

The photographs in my gallery are left there (after some pruning) just for memories of that phase of my life. I was in high school, later junior college; I was falling in love; I was exploring. It's amazing what happens over any particular span of time. For example, I have some pictures in my galleries and scraps that were made with Rick, who, at the time, was 5 hours away from me. Now, we've been living together for a year and a half, are engaged, and plan to get married in the next year. Before, I was in high school; now, we talk about when we'll have kids!

The photograph that still gets attention from people in my gallery is one that I'd like to delete because it's the only one that really gets any attention. I guess I'd like to delete it because it has no sentimental value to me; whereas, photographs of my silly pottery stuff have a lot more value to me because I put in real effort to make those pieces, whether or not anyone else thinks they're "good." So, before you go favoriting the neon rubber duckies kissing, take a look at these and try to understand why I keep them in my gallery:

- That's from when I stayed with Rick up in Wisconsin (we were maybe 18 or 19 at the time) and he got the fishy for me with arcade tickets.

- These were taken when just my dad and I went driving to Elephant Rock state park and Johnson Shut-Ins National Park on a day trip. That was probably the last time he and I went exploring just the two of us. There probably won't be any more times like that with just him and me since I've moved away.

- From another trip that I took to stay with Rick, back when we had to wait months to be together for just a week at a time. We stood out at the lake that evening to enjoy the beautiful weather and scenery; we later played around on the playground equipment like little kids. Which is where this pic comes from -

- The picture I'm most proud of from my girly photography phase. That's still my favorite glass fish from my fish collection - the first I ever got.

[link]
- A little friend that my dad and I made in the fall of 2005. We later took him to an animal shelter after deducing that he was a stray, so hopefully he found a great new home because he still is the friendliest and sweetest cat I've ever seen. I still miss him - wish we could have kept him, but the whole being allergic to cats thing got in the way.

- Another trip to be with Rick. I'm glad we don't have to take "trips" anymore to be together.

- My most favorite picture ever of my sweet puppy dog, Tipper. If I look at this picture too much, I start to tear up because I miss him so much and worry about him these days because he's no longer young and perfectly healthy.

Well, when I started this journal entry, I was trying to convey that although I'm not particularly active on here anymore, if anyone comes to visit my gallery on deviantArt, don't judge it too harshly because it's now just a scrapbook for myself of where I was at from 2004 through 2007. I no longer try to make art because I'm either lazy, too busy, or have decided that I don't have the talent for it. BUT, I haven't abandoned this place altogether. I still watch people, particularly people that I have enjoyed during my whole stay at dA, and I still add to my favorites list because that serves as my own personal art gallery. This place is too interesting to totally forget! For example, Mr. =fredfree, who I've never met or spoken to outside of this website, but who stands out as my favorite deviant for his kindness and wit, sent me one of these [link] (the blue tree), which I think is incredibly awesome. For Christmas, I sent him a batch of my mom's chocolate chip cookies. Another deviant who lived on the other side of the planet ~ewe2 gave me a pleasant surprise in the way of a dA subscription one time. Looking back through old journals and comments, I remember some meaningful and interesting conversations with `breaking-reality who happened to go to the same community college that I did though we never met each other there. And Rick, for my birthday (or was it Christmas?) got me a print from deviantArt ([link]) which sits in a very nice frame and will have a nice spot on a wall in a future apartment.

This site offers a lot for its users; it's unfortunate that I don't have a lot to offer it at the moment, but I hope this rather lengthy journal entry will explain (to those that have stopped through) why there hasn't been any submissions from this deviant in a long while.

(P.S. One thing that hasn't changed is that I'm still reading Harry Potter books, haha. No, I'm not constantly reading them, but about once a year, I get the urge to go through them again, and I happen to currently be on book 7 during this year's reading urge.)
